ABSTRACT
Background: Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) impose significant challenges not only on individuals grappling with addiction but also the caregivers who provide support and care. The caregiving role is associated multifaceted burdens that require understanding targeted interventions. Recognizing diverse dimensions of caregiver burden crucial for offering effective support. Objective: study aimed to find out in substance use disorder patients, examining severity socio-demographic correlations, contributing insights into strategies. Methodology: cross-sectional observational took place at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College's Psychiatry Department a private psychiatric drug rehabilitation center from September 1, 2018, August 31, 2020. research focused patients their caregivers, involving 50 eligible selected through inclusion exclusions criteria. Diagnoses followed DSM IV Socio-demographics were gathered via semi-structured questionnaires. Caregiver was assessed using Bengali Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) scale approximately hour-long interviews, 1-2 daily. Ethical procedures encompassed informed consent confidentiality assurance. Result: included male participants. Patients mean age 31.92 (±8.21) 41.68 (±12.89). Mainly, mothers (40%) wives (34%). Caregivers experiencing moderate severe 58%, mild 26%, 16%. Mean ZBI score 48.22±13.55. Higher correlated illiteracy, low family income, excessive spending, prolonged use, multiple usage. Alcohol users faced more than other users. Female younger age, housewives experienced heightened burden. No links found marital status, habitat, religion, type, or administration method.
