ABSTRACT
Since the end of 1980s, magnitude survival prolongation or mortality reduction has not been same for adolescents and young adults (ayas) with cancer as their older younger counterparts. Precise reasons those observations are unknown, but differences have attributed in part to delays diagnosis treatment. In 2003 at Jewish General Hospital, we developed first Canadian multidisciplinary aya oncology clinic better serve this unique patient population. The aim present study was develop an approach quantify our patients relation observed delay. In a retrospective chart review, collected information about delays, treatment efficacy, obstacles seen clinic. From symptom onset, median time health care contact longer girls women (62 days) than boys men (6 days). Median from onset 173 days; largest contributor that duration. Delays were shorter who initially presented emergency room, compared whose another type, presenting room 3 times more likely die disease.Delays frequently reported ayas cancer, duration delay unrelated sample. Application larger prospective samples is warranted understand between ayas-and other groups.
