ABSTRACT
Background Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is a common and potentially curable cause of gastric mucosa lesion. This study investigated the relationship Hp infection with histological changes in cancer Hp-positive patients compared Hp-eradication followed up for ten years. Methods From an initial group 1 006 adults, 552 subjects were randomly assigned to treatment (T; n =276) or placebo (P; =276). In randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel trial, T received oral doses omeprazole, amoxicillin clarithromycin week; those P placebo. One month after ended, 13C urea breath test was performed, undetectable 88.89% group. All at 1, 5, 8, 10 years treatment, endoscopy biopsies examination. Results Gastric inflammation significantly milder than that one year eradication this persisted Glandular atrophy intestinal metaplasia (IM) had deteriorated both groups during However, increased score glandular antrum corpus, IM only antrum, more obvious During years, 9 diagnosed (2 group; 7 =0.176). When mucosal absent corpus when entering study, incidence ( =6) much higher (n =0, =0.013). Conclusions may diminish help halt progression delay development gastritis. helpful reducing risk cancer, especially early stage infection.
