Thyroid papillary carcinoma in Hashimoto thyroiditis: clinicopathological features and surgical treatment

ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features and surgical treatment for Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT)concomitant with thyroid papillary carcinoma(PTC).Methods The clinical data in 128 cases of PTC including 30 HT concomitant treated surgically diagnosis confirmed pathologically from Jan 2009 to Dec 2010 were retrospectively analyzed.Results incidence carcinoma was 6.5 times higher among women than men.Rates central lymph node metastasis without 46.7% 39.4%,respectively.Rates micro-PTC 45.5% 16.7%.Rates > 1 cm 47.2%.Rates multiple 100% 69.2%.Conclusions Coexistent is common middle-aged women.Central frequently involved irrespective tumor size.Total thyroidectomy combined dissection a safe necessary management PTC.
