Application of mini-CEX in community rotation of general practice residency training

ABSTRACT
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of mini clinical evaluation exercise(mini-CEX) in community rotation general practice residency training. Methods Forty nine trainees, who participated during July 2012 to 2014 3 teaching bases, were randomly divided into two groups: 25 trainees intervention group received conventional and additional 2 rounds mini-CEX one month, 24 only. The changes self-evaluation scores competence after evaluated. Focus discussions 8 teachers from also adopted January February 2013 assess mini-CEX. Results Three withdrew study interventional completed 232 mini-CEXs. elevated all items rotation(from 7.03±0.68 7.30±0.77 medical history, 7.00±0.83 7.18±0.88 physical examination, 7.42±1.20 7.52±0.76 humanistic qualities, 6.79±0.82 7.12±0.70 judgment, 6.85±1.06 7.18±0.81 counseling skills, 6.85±1.15 7.12±0.96 organization, 7.09±0.81 7.33±0.69 overall competence), while control group, qualities(from 7.74±0.89 7.60±0.97), judgment(from 6.94±0.77 6.77±1.10) organization/efficiency(from 6.94±0.96 6.80±0.76) declined. After adjusting score before rotation, increased judgment(7.12±0.70 vs. 6.77±1.10, F=4.339, P=0.042)and organization(7.12±0.96 6.80±0.76, F=4.336, P=0.042)of significantly higher than those group. In focus both recognized that would enhance competence, be more comprehensive assessing adaptable training program former tests. major concerns using subjective rating process, non-unified standards insufficient ability.
