ABSTRACT
Background Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are common complications of diabetes.Currently abroad study results incidence risk factors DR DME in type 2 diabetes population varied largely depending on the ethnical difference. However, relevant epidemiological is rare China. Objective This survey was to assess 5-year Chinese patients. Methods A prospective cross-sectional performed under informed consent patients. An for organized carried out 805 patients Shanghai Xinjing Community from 2007 2012, scheduled as baseline 2012 final survey. The comprehensive examinations were annually during 5 years, including sociodemographic information, systemic examination ophthalmological test.DR onset grading by OCT fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) images based current international classification.Cumulative years determined outcome variables, associations between potential outcomes analyzed. Results In time, non-DR found 322 patients, which 151 participants developed follow-up duration, with cumulative rate 46.89%.The independent occurrence hyperglycemia (odds ratio[OR]=1.12, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01-1.24, P=0.03) hypertension (OR=1.80, 95%CI: 1.14-2.86, P=0.01). In 629 non-DME, 124 19.71%.Hyperglycemia appeared be only factor (OR=1.36, 1.24-1.49, P<0.01). Conclusions Hyperglycemia play an important role pathogenesis development intensive glycemic control should emphasized patients.
