ABSTRACT
Background Long-term study on type 2 diabetes discovered that some patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) or macular edema (DME) appear regression of lesions without invasive ocular intervention but only systemic medication. These mechanisms remain unclear. Objective This was to survey the rate and relevant factors DR DME in patients. Methods A prospectively observational performed.Totally 778 who met inclusion criteria participated this consecutive 5-year survey. The demographic information collected, ophthalmological examinations were carried out, fundus photography identified by doctors blind method.DR graded into non-, mild-, moderate-, severe-nonproliferation proliferative based international clinical classification, moderate-and severe-DME.DR improvement served as outcome variables defined grading lateral eyes lowering at least 1 grade development fellow eyes. The influences age, gender, education level, onset course, obesity serum creatinine, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol glycosylated hemoglobin levels evaluated Logistic analysis. Results Four hundred fifty-six appeared initial examination, which 139 severity 30.48%.Both low blood glucose level creatinine examination independent risk associated (blood level: odds ratio(OR)=0.53, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.45-0.63, P<0.01; OR=0.98, 95%CI: 0.97-0.99, P<0.01). One fifty-eight found have 20 had a throughout follow-up duration, 12.66%.High baseline be factor (OR=1.47, 1.14-1.91, P<0.01). Conclusions Effective control is favorable for DR, rapid drop beneficial DME. Key words: Diabetes, 2/complications; Retinopathy, diabetic; Macular edema,
