[Effects of icariin total flavonoids capsule on bone mineral density and bone histomorphometry in growing rats].

Objective: To investigate the effect of icariin total flavonoids capsules (ITFC) on bone mineral density (BMD) and histomorphometry in growing rats its anti-osteoporosis mechanism. Methods: Thirty female SD were randomly divided into 3 groups:normal control group, ITFC-1 group ITFC-2 group. Rats fed with 50 mg·kg-1·d-1 or 100 ITFC, respectively, those normal equal volume distilled water. The whole body BMD was measured after 4, 8 12 weeks, BMDs right femur lumbar vertebrae weeks. serum levels tartaric acid phosphatase 5b (TRACP 5b) alkaline (BALP) by ELISA. Bone morphometry performed tibia. Results: There no significant differences weight increase between two ITFC groups (all P>0.05). also 4 weeks After BMD, vitro, BALP level trabecular area significantly higher, separation lower than that P<0.05); width number TRACP P<0.05). level, Conclusion: can prevent osteoporosis increasing formation, decreasing resorption improving microstructure bone.
