ABSTRACT
Abstract The Ly α emission line is one of the main observables galaxies at high redshift, but its output depends strongly on neutral gas distribution and kinematics around star-forming regions where UV photons are produced. We present observations 21 cm H i comparable scales with goal to qualitatively investigate how interstellar medium (ISM) properties impact transfer in galaxies. have observed highest possible angular resolution (≈3″ beam) Very Large Array two local from Lyman Alpha Reference Sample. compare these data Hubble Space Telescope imaging spectroscopy, Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer Potsdam MultiAperture Spectrophotometer ionized observations. In LARS08, high-intensity cospatial column density dust content lowest. redshifted, consistent a velocity redistribution that allows escape low content. eLARS01, located , below sensitivity limit ( < 2 × 10 20 −2 ). perturbed ISM front region plays an important role escape. both galaxies, faint (∼1×10 −16 erg s −1 arcsec ) traces intermediate found, regardless Dust seems modulate, not prevent, formation halo. This study suggests existence scaling relations between dust,
