ABSTRACT
Among Bagre genera, there is a high variation in the estimation of age, concern due to overexploitation risk fisheries because age underestimation. panamensis an important fishery resource Mexican Pacific and Gulf California. Its known from otoliths, but its accuracy needs be confirmed, periodicity otoliths record validated. The external morphology, some microstructure attributes, B. panamensis' were described 371 specimens collected southeast lapilli larger than sagittae asterisci otoliths. present aragonite crystals with prismatic shape, their growth radial, core otolith edge. form annual ring, defined by slowdown that occurs during April July, breeding season. ages individuals ranged 1 15 years, applied method considered adequate accurate for (otolith cross-sectioning red-neutral staining).
