Proposals for improvement of Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC: Central Italy

ABSTRACT
The main purpose of the 92/43/EEC Habitats Directive is to contribute conservation biodiversity, understood as habitat types and species flora fauna European Union. To achieve this goal, natural semi-natural biodiversity a whole must be recognized included in its annexes. As for biotopes, named types, Italy unfortunately lacking it Annex I does not include important ecosystems that are typical territory, rare biogeographical reasons or threatened. Therefore, opportunity identify first list significant habitats central discussed here. For each new proposed (new subtypes) sheet has been prepared highlight their salient characteristics. proposals concern seven one subtype: sedge reeds formations (Freshwater large reed beds), willow shrublands (Shrubby river banks fens), Apennine garrigues (Apennine hilly montane garrigues), subtype Habitat 6130 (Communities herbaceous dwarf shrub-suffrutescent plants Italian ultramafic substrates), ancient olive groves ("Centuries-old groves" with evergreen Quercus spp. arborescent matorral), secondary meadows (Italian submontane pastured dominated by Cynosurus cristatus ), badlands (Pioneer halophilous sub-halophilous communities “calanchi” “biancane” badlands) hop-hornbeam woods (Italian-Balkan woods).
