ABSTRACT
Results of an aquatic beetle survey at Volcán Tacaná, Mexico, are presented with five altitudinal levels in a monthly sampling regime, aiming to estimate both diversity and distribution patterns the fauna. The first list species from this mountain is presented, comprising 40 32 genera nine families, four recorded for time Mexico six Chiapas. fauna characterized by Elmidae 20 species, Dytiscidae eleven Dryopidae three, Epimetopidae, Hydraenidae, Hydrophilidae, Gyrinidae, Lutrochidae, Noteridae one each. composition through sampled gradient (670–1,776 m) was not homogeneous, elmid Macrelmis , Heterelmis Microcylloepus Austrolimnius present all levels, while Hexanchorus Neoelmis Onychelmis were 1–3 (673–1,214 m); dytiscids mostly 4 5 (1,619–1,776 m), dryopids only 1–3. A Parsimony Analysis Endemicity supports general partition between + 5.
