ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to identify and classify the lake systems Araguaia River floodplain. area extends from Aruana, State Goiás, Luiz Alves, along 256 km. A total 293 lakes were identified grouped in ten categories: abandoned channel lakes, linked channels, oxbow, filled oxbows, composite formed on meander scrolls, scrolled floodplain, by lateral accretion, blocked valleys embankment lakes. main objective characterize morphometric parameters for 20 middle plain compare different values between high low river stages. Area, perimeter, depth, length maximum width, shoreline development obtained using satellite Landsat 5 TM 7 ETM+ images a SPRING Geographic Information System. variability during flood stages changed significantly. Approximately 65% showed (Dp) > 4 because general tendency have an elongated shape
