Class context, teacher behavior, and physical activity levels during physical education classes

ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to test the association between classroom context, teacher’s behavior and physical activity (PA) level elementary school students during education (PE) classes. Eighteen PE classes from six schools were evaluated. Classrrom context assessed by systematic observation (SOFIT) while students' PA measured accelerometry. Data treated descriptive statistics presented as a proportion class time in sedentary at different levels. Association teacher with levels tested binary logistic regression. student spent more light (40.8%) vigorous (40.9%) PAs. largest allocated of: structured games (35.8%), skill practice (23.2%) management (21.7%) represented 80.7% total class. most frequent were: general instruction (45.5%), (28.7%) observing (18.3%). It found that student’s varied according teachers' behavior.
