ABSTRACT
This paper presents the effect of different sizes palm kernel shell (PKS) activated carbon as carrier material in a micro-bioreactor system to treat oil mill effluent (POME). Three PKS were used material, i.e. 4.750 – 2.360 mm (large), 1.180 0.710 (average) and 0.425 0.300 (small). The systems run for total 29 days under hydraulic retention time (HRT) 24 hours. performances several quality parameters POME regarding use studied. with size showed highest removal chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammoniacal-nitrogen (AN), solids, 41 %, 84.6 88 % respectively. - performance removing TP (45 %), while TN (53 %). was also found effectively reduce colour. In overall, best results be treating compared other two sizes.
