ABSTRACT
Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) was developed in the 1960s and initially enabled production of glass fiber reinforced polymer composite (GFRPC) mass production. Nowadays, both material process are well established for semi-structural components various applications from construction industry to automotive components. Currently, approximately 20% all fibers produced Europe processed SMC. In this paper, use renewable filler materials SMC is described. By using those alternative fillers, a density reduction 20%, while maintaining same processability mechanical properties SMC, can be achieved.
