ABSTRACT
Abstract Objective: The DRIVE Initiative engages interprofessional faculty and learners at UMass Chan Medical School to build tools support for educators identify mitigate bias in their educational materials teaching. Methods: Key resources include a core skills workshop, taught by representatives from the Graduate, Nursing schools. To encourage active application of these skills, there is printable curriculum appraisal tool an independent learning module. team also offers individual consultation as well discussion across our academic community through weekly DRIVE-in cafés. Results: In 2021, 16 workshops were held with 84 attending. Monday cafés started; associated interactive library guide which links curated anonymous reporting was accessed 922 times. Discussion: While workshop required Medicine highly encouraged all others, we have noted gaps uptake particularly basic sciences (Graduate School) are increasing efforts that area. Challenges included demonstrating relevance disciplines e.g., loose connection science increase adoption, programs been continuously updated improved based on feedback, tailored specific audiences. Recruiting compensated multiple schools has vital success. Conclusion: Biased curricula harm environments those who teach learn within them, lead perpetuation disparities: approach demonstrated success mitigating this.
