COVID-19 Pandemic–Related Perceived Stress, Insomnia, Depression, and Anxiety Among Rural Primary Care Health Workers

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Mental health of care workers (HCWs) was affected during the COVID-19 pandemic due to direct handling suspected and confirmed cases. While neurobiological mechanisms that mediate stress, depression, anxiety are well established, psychological not. Objective: To assess (1) prevalence anxiety, insomnia, perceived stress among accredited social activists, multipurpose workers, auxiliary nurse midwives, other certified HCWs rural areas Telangana, India (2) factors with depression anxiety. Methods: A total 300 from across 10 primary centers 5 districts were selected. All participants self-reported their sleep problems, related pandemic. Sociodemographic relevant data pertinent context also obtained. The survey used translated validated self report instruments conducted August September 2021. Results: mean (SD) scores on Insomnia Severity Index, 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, Pandemic-Related Perceived Stress Scale COVID-19, 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire 5.94 (5.6), 4.21 (4.5), 21.94 (5.8), 3.89 (4.8), respectively.
