Use of antimicrobial agents and granulocyte colony stimulating factors for febrile neutropenia in cancer patients in a tertiary care hospital in India

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Use of antimicrobials (AM) and granulocyte colony stimulating factors (G-CSF) affect the outcome cost treatment febrile neutropenia (FN). There are no studies describing AM utilization pattern or use G-CSF incurred on them in cancer patients with FN from India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A study was conducted a tertiary care, teaching hospital New Delhi, India, objectives FN. The efficacy costs prescribed were also assessed. RESULTS: total 211 enrolled study. majority 207 (98.1%) low-risk category. average number used per patient 2.45 ± 0.02 exposure density 1.19. All administered five different combinations regimens G-CSF, irrespective risk No difference time to defervesence recovery ANC counts observed regimens. drug episode (FNE) Rs 4694.45 296.35 (113.95 7.19$). accounted for 76.14 - 97.58% costs. CONCLUSION: Large variations routine status, observed. Guidelines rational cost-effective needed be prepared. This especially important as given free all admitted government health facility.
