ABSTRACT
Migraine is a chronic and disabling disorder. Treatment of migraine often comprises symptomatic (abortive) preventive (prophylactic) treatment. The current drugs used in prophylaxis include antidepressant (Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, Tricyclic antidepressants), anti-epileptic (valproate, gabapentin, etc).The objective our study was to assess the efficacy tolerability levetiracetam adult prophylaxis, compared valproate placebo.We conducted prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled study. A total 85 patients were randomized receive 500 mg/d (n = 27), 32) or placebo 26). evaluated for treatment after 6 months. Efficacy assessed as more than 50% decrease headache frequency.In group, 17 (63.0%) experienced frequency, while this number 21 (65.6%) group 4 (15.4%) group. difference not statistically significant between valproate, it when comparing either placebo.Compared placebo, offers improvement frequency with migraine. comparable currently such valproate.
