Prevalence and epidemiological correlates of bacterial vaginosis among nonpregnant females at a tertiary care center in Assam, India

ABSTRACT
Purpose: Bacterial vaginosis is the most common type of vaginal infection among women reproductive age and accounted for at least one-third all vulvovaginal infections. The main aim this prospective study was to determine risk factors that may be associated with occurrence bacterial group females in Assam. Materials Methods: A total two hundred married, nonpregnant who complained one or more symptoms suggesting lower genital tract were enrolled study. Detailed history patients taken. Three high swabs obtained after informed consent patients. diagnosed on basis Amsel's clinical criteria Nugent's Gram stain scoring method. Data statistically analyzed using Chi-square test. Results: Our found prevalence 51.5% (103/200) by 49% (98/200) respectively. Significant association between age, socioeconomic status, parity contraceptives. However, no significant duration marriage stage menstrual cycle. Conclusion: relatively higher rate population under study, which attributed like low status unhygienic practices. Barrier contraception an effective method prevention transmission vaginosis. studies needed confirm evaluate causes these associations, so a preventive strategy can planned.
