ABSTRACT
Background: Nigeria like the rest of world is exposed to a wide range natural and human-induced disasters such as flood, plane crash, communal clashes, postelection violence recently, insurgency from Boko Haram. Most these have led population displacement its consequences. This study assessed social characteristics risk factors for diseases among internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Stefano's foundation camp in Jos, Nigeria. Methodology: The was cross-sectional descriptive nature carried out on March 1–30, 2015. data were collected using 312 interviewer-administered questionnaire, key informant interview, participant's observation analysis performed SPSS version 20.0. Results: Majority (85%) respondents within age bracket 18–49 years, 61% females, 39% had no formal education, 53% farmers by profession others, 96% 4% them result Borno Adamawa States, respectively stayed 3 months (43.8%). There report several morbidities one case mortality malaria, diarrhea, cholera due inadequate water supply, poor refuse, fecal disposal presence disease vectors death 6-year-old child malaria. (83%) IDPs obtained medical treatment ill-equipped clinic. Conclusion: showed that faced with so many challenges nongovernmental organization has been rendering assistance. need all relevant stakeholders make life meaningful this vulnerable group.
