ABSTRACT
The seeds of Telfairia occidentalis have been known to possess different biological properties and are used in traditional medicine Africa Asia treat many ailments. plant is particularly noted traditionally for its healing usually consumed the form herbal decoctions/concoctions as a blood tonic, sudden attacks convulsions, pain, malaria anaemia. In present study, various phytochemical pharmacological studies were done on methanolic extract evaluate antioxidant antinociceptive substantiate use.Phytochemical screening was according standard procedures. Antioxidant potential ascertained using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, total phenolic content flavonoid assays. Analgesic activity analyzed formalin induced paw licking test albino rats at 100, 200 400 mg per kg body weight. All results extrapolated from experiments expressed mean ± SEM. Data obtained statistically ANOVA (one-way) followed by Dennett's posthoc test.Phytochemicals alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, steroid anthraquinones. significantly inhibited DPPH with percentage inhibition 147.3%. seed T. reduced (P < 0.05) both neurogenic inflammatory phases test, 35.59 78.51% mg/kg, dose dependent manner. The this study hind licking, could be an analgesic treatment pain also showed marked potential.
