Clinical images in dermatology manuscripts — A study of journal submission guidelines

ABSTRACT
Background: Images are an important element of any scientific publication, more so for a very visual specialty such as dermatology. Dermatology journals generally include detailed instructions related to images submitted with the manuscripts, including technical aspects file format, resolution, and editing. We aimed review critically analyze in top 50 dermatology [as per latest Clarivate journal citation report (JCR) ranking]. Methods: The JCR were included study. Instructions reviewed each journals. main points analyzed type, size limits, editing support post-processing details regarding patient consent. Results: Only half (25) had clear, detailed, specific images. one specifically mentioned pixels inch (PPI) descriptive term, remaining used dots (DPI), whereas 6 did not mention either. Twenty-three recommended image. most common minimum resolution was 300 DPI (41 journals). Although 24 none elaborated on image plagiarism instructions. Twenty-one fifty clear policy Conclusions: Image submission guidelines need be made elaborate yet easier understand. Developing consensus, followed by standardization these guidelines, can help both authors
