ABSTRACT
Oxidative stress can cause many diseases and increases the risk of post-operative complications in children with congenital heart disease. For these reasons, this study was aimed to investigate differences between cyanotic acyanotic paediatric patients who underwent surgery markers oxidative stress.Eighty five were included study. The samples taken before within first 24 h after evaluated for haemoglobin (Hb), leukocytes, uric acid, glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde total antioxidant capacity. Cyanotic, acyanotic, hyperoxygenated, normo-oxygenated, cardiac or without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) comparisons made.Positive correlation found age pre-operative status values. Cyanotic did not have different reserve capacities preoperatively. Although thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels significantly lower patients, higher. TBARS increased GSH reduced postoperatively. level oxygenation a significant difference on stress. duration CPB negative effects stress.Cyanotic younger be more vulnerable decreased could indicators damage depending factors such as surgery, CPB, ischaemia/reperfusion, inflammation, iron overload oxygenation. does noticeable causes stress, but if it is conducted appropriately, impact
