ABSTRACT
The prevalence of chronic pain (CP) is well described in Europe, America, and Australia. However, little knowledge available the CP within Asia or Southeast Asia. Given cultural genetic variation causation, manifestation, reporting, findings previous western studies cannot be extrapolated to Asian countries. A study was needed carried out quantify magnitude impact adult population India.Two sets questionnaires were designed. first, a screening questionnaire used telephonically identify CP, should there CP; second, detailed administered, characterize features pain. interviews face-to-face.A total 4326 Indian patients screened, 836 completed during 2006. found 19.3% (n = 836). There higher females (25.2%). Pain increased steeply beyond age 65 years old. significant on work daily function.This adults' survey about as compared other studies; however, just significant. In rapidly aging population, emerging healthcare problem which may likely exert an increasing toll existing social infrastructure next two decades.
