ABSTRACT
Purpose: To determine the clinicomicrobiological profile of infectious agents and their antibiotic susceptibility in different type endophthalmitis. Methods: A retrospective review clinical microbiological records from January 2001 to December 2010, was performed 1110 patients diagnosed with endophthalmitis (postoperative, posttraumatic, endogenous post keratitis) record demographic details, presentations; isolated antimicrobial sensitivity pattern. Antimicrobial testing for various culture positive isolates (bacterial/fungal) by disc diffusion technique. Results: Out intra-ocular specimens processed, 384 (34.6%) were bacteria. S epidermidis most predominant isolate accounting 42.7% all bacteria obtained, followed Pseudomonas aeruginosa (24.5%). Besides Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter spp. next common gram negative bacilli detected (8.3%) Klebsiella, E. coli, Enterobacter Alkaligenes 2.6%, 0.8%, 0.8% 0.5% cases respectively. The fungal species Aspergillus spp., 36.1%, Fusarium 26.4% cases. Overall pattern our study showed that susceptible glycopeptides like vancomycin (80-100%) fluoroquinolones (87-91%). organisms Klebsiella towards ranged between 61% - 82%. Conclusion: postoperative posttraumatic endophthalmitis, bacterial endophthalmitisAmongst fungi organism.
