Medical research: Perception and barriers to its practice among medical school students of Chennai

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Knowledge of medical students about research has been little explored. Although there a practice among undergraduate level, the is not universal and have potential barriers difficulties in carrying out research. The present study was done to find perception attitude toward assess practices research.METHODOLOGY: This cross-sectional conducted 344 school college Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 2018. Systematic random sampling used. tool self-administered questionnaire including questions on knowledge, barrier, 5-point Likert scale for assessing attitude. Adequate knowledge (>70% correct answers) positive (>25 score) were considered.RESULTS: Among participants, only 127 (36.9%) had adequate 68 (19.8%) Regarding research, 34.3% 17.4% published journals. Difficulty choosing topic, difficulty collecting data, allocation time amidst academic activities considered as barrier by 41.6%, 40.7%, 45.9%, respectively.
