ABSTRACT
Background: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) is of utmost clinical importance because they challenge the armamentarium treating clinicians, hampering current treatment strategies. Aim: The aim study to detect carbapenemase-producing by phenotypic and molecular methods. Materials Methods: Nonrepetitive isolates were identified conventional methods from various samples. All these screened for carbapenem resistance meropenem (10μg) or ertapenem disc. which found be carbapenem-resistant screening test subjected confirmatory in form modified Hodge (MHT). These then polymerase chain reaction detection genes, namely New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 (NDM), verona integron-encoded (VIM), imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas (IMP), KPC, OXA-48. Results: Out 1254 , 230 (18.3%) positive carbapenemase production test. A total 150 out (65.2%) tested MHT. phenotypically confirmed isolates, bla NDM gene was 85, VIM 32, IMP 22 isolates. OXA-48 KPC genes not any isolate. Moreover, there 19 no detected. Conclusion: prevalence among 11.96% (150/1254). Genes responsible are widely prevalent Routine will help management broadly-resistant pathogens implementation appropriate infection control measures, thus limiting their spread.
