ABSTRACT
Purpose: To evaluate the frequency of banana sensitization and allergy among a group atopic Egyptian children in relation to parental/self reports.Methods: This is case-control study included 2 groups allergic with without history allergy, each 40 patients.They were subjected skin prick test (SPT) using commercial allergen extract prick-prick (PPT) raw banana, addition measuring serum banana-specific IgE.Oral challenge was performed suspected cases.Results: Banana diagnosed 3 (7.5%)patients based on positive exposure SPT/PPT elevated IgE.The patients had bronchial asthma exacerbation upon exposure.The PPT results conform those SPT both diagnosis reactivity banana.Serum IgE detectable whole studied sample higher level (P=0.005).Oral negative for 20 but PPT.Conclusions: Self/parental reports high while actual uncommon.The seems as reliable unlike specific which reflects rather than allergy.Oral food remains most helpful tool cases.
