ABSTRACT
Purpose: As pet ownership increases, sensitization to animal allergens due domestic exposure is a concern.Sensitization may occur from indirect exposure, as well direct of animals. However, there have been conflicting results regarding the association between and in adults. Methods: In total, 401 patients with various allergic diseases were enrolled this study. We performed skin prick tests 55 common inhalant food allergens, including dog, cat, rabbit allergens.A mean wheal diameter 3 mm or greater was considered positive reaction. The modality each allergen investigated using questionnaire included present ownership, past occupational occasional contact owner, no contact.Present occupational, regarded exposure. Results: The rate for 20.4% 15.0% 9.0% rabbit.Direct dogs (72.0%) significantly higher than that other animals (18.4% cats 16.7% rabbits), whereas 'no contact' (78.3%) rabbits (83.3%) (26.8%;P<0.0001).Independent risk factors Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (OR=2.4,P=0.052), farinae (OR=5.1,P<0.001), cat (OR=4.4,P<0.0001), (OR=1.5,P=0.029) dog (OR=4.4,P<0.0001) (OR=2.6,P=0.036) cats. Finally, rabbits, independent factor Alternaria (OR=6.0,P<0.002).Conclusions: These suggest contributes diseases, induce animal's allergen.
