Traumatic lumbar hernia: clinical features and management

ABSTRACT
Purpose: Traumatic lumbar hernia is rare, thus making diagnosis and proper treatment challenging.Accordingly, we aimed to investigate the clinical manifestations management strategies of traumatic hernias.Methods: The medical records patients with treated at Gachon University Gil Hospital from March 2006 February 2015, were retrospectively reviewed.Results: We included 5 men 4 women (mean age, 55 years; range, 23-71 years).In 8 patients, most injuries caused by motor vehicle collisions, including those wherein a pedestrian was struck (5 cases car accidents, 2 falls, 1 involving penetrating materials); in patient, probable cause severe cough.Eight underwent repair surgery open 3 laparoscopic), prosthetic mesh used 7 patients.Hernia repairs elective patients; emergency performed right hemicolectomy patient.No complication or recurrence observed.Only had mild complications, such as postoperative seroma.Conclusion: relatively rare injury posteriolateral abdominal wall.Lumbar should be suspected high-energy torso, all undergo abdominopelvic computed tomography.After diagnosis, can electively without complications cases.
