ABSTRACT
Nature is the best source of complementary and alternative medicine. The plant Phyllanthus acidus (PA) L. has been used traditionally in pain, inflammatory oxidative stress related disorders. In this consequence, methanolic extract PA (MEPA) was selected to explore ability enhance cognitive function, brain antioxidant enzymes anti-acetylcholinesterase activity which can be for treatment disorders like Alzheimer's disease (AD). purpose study investigate neuroprotective effect MEPA on learning memory impairment scopolamine-induced rats dementia stress. Treatment with (i.e., 100 200 mg/kg b.w.) investigated scopolamine-treated Swiss albino male 14 days its effects were examined using Elevated Plus Maze (EPM) test, Passive Avoidance Novel Object Recognition (NOR) Morris Water (MWM) test as well level such catalase (CAT), super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione reductase (GSR), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), reduced (GSH), peroxidase (GSH-Px), lipid peroxidation (TBARS) contents acetylcholinesterase (AChE) rat tissue homogenates. Administration significantly (P th 14th day compared control group EPM test. doses suggestively respect group. For NOR administration considerably < 0.01, P 0.001; 0.01) increased DI (discrimination index) that markedly 0.05, 0.01; decreased EL (escape latency) TSTQ (time spent target quadrant) successive acquisition trial MWM case probe TSA annuli) CAT, SOD, GSR, GST GSH, GSH-Px 0.001) TBARS through inhibiting decreasing AChE present demonstrates showed by improving functions reduces increasing activity. Therefore, enhancing learning, memory, potentiality neurodegenerative AD.
