ABSTRACT
Mode choice is important in shipping commodities efficiently. This paper develops a binary logit model and regression to study the cereal grains movement by truck rail United States using publically available Freight Analysis Framework (FAF2.2) database U.S. highway networks TransCAD, geographic information system with strong transportation modeling capabilities. The both use same set of generic variables, including mode split probability, commodity weight, value, network travel time, fuel cost. results show that models perform well for States, yielding overall better estimates respect observed splits. two can be used other between modes may produce if more specific variables are used.
