ABSTRACT
CHARACTERISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH RISK OF EXTINCTION IN BRAZILIAN ATLANTIC FOREST MAMMALS The susceptibility of a species to extinction can be related three groups characteristics, namely, distribution (endemism and restricted distribution), biology (body size, trophic guild, reproduction) human impacts (hunting). A survey these characteristics was made in terrestrial mammals the Brazilian Atlantic Forest determine their individual each order, estimate which orders have higher expected average proportion susceptible extinction. These estimates were compared with official threatened lists. Principal components analysis (PCA) used find best define proportional order. Spearman´s correlation if global, national, state evaluation scales affected relationship between listed for characteristic. Lastly, linear regression test dependence number total characteristic susceptibility. PCA grouped larger body wider distribution, more hunting given order smaller narrower less on same axis. second component most by increased least affected. There significant positive (p
