ABSTRACT
It can generally cause a great pressure surge and noise when the speed of an actuator is quickly changed in a large-scale hydraulic system. In this paper, the pressure surge is considered as a response of the system to the input signal in order to obtain an optimal control for the minimum pressure surge in the shortest speed conversion time. The dynamic performance of the valve controlled cylinder system studied is described by space state equations, and the optimal control is obtained by the simplex method for 3 performance indices. The microprocessor is used for the optimal control in the speed conversion of the test system. The results of the numerical computer simulation and the experimental results are similar. It also shows that within the same or shorter settling time, using the optimal control can reduce the pressure surge to about one fifth of the pressure response amplitude to the step input signal.
