Evaluation of Thought and Language Functions in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

ABSTRACT
Objective: Patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) could display disorders in cognitive areas including attention, long-term visual and verbal memory, structural abilities, executive functions.There are contradictory results regarding language ability psychomotor functions.We evaluated the thought functions of patients OSAS their relationship disease severity.Methods: who applied to center a preliminary diagnosis were included study.According polysomnographic (PSG) results, 95 diagnosed accepted as patient group, 31 without control group.All administered thought-language index (TLI) by psychologist.TLI scores calculated differences between groups evaluated.It was also examined rapid eye movement (REM)-related TLI scores.Results: There no significant difference total score.However, "poverty speech" score, which is subcategory TLI, found be significantly higher group than (p=0.266,p=0.025 respectively).No scored category disorder.There severity poverty speech, weakening purpose, perseveration (p=0.846, p=0.111, p=0.839, p=0.059 respectively).When classified REM-related non-REM-related OSAS, significant. Conclusion:In evaluation through impairment functions.The poor performance individuals excluded terms may related snoring accompanying arousal excessive daytime sleepiness.No negative effect on detected.Further studies required evaluate OSAS.
