Parental Characteristics Affecting the Age at Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder: An Observational Cross-sectional Study

ABSTRACT
Objectives: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common neurodevelopmental in childhood, affecting one 68 children.Many children with ASD exhibit recognizable problems social interactions their first year of life.Although some mothers recognize earlier, the diagnosis delayed due to various reasons.In this study, it aimed investigate association between parental autistic traits, alexithymia and child's problematic behaviours diagnostic delay. Materials Methods:A total 80 parents have been included study.Autism quotient (AQ), Toronto Alexithymia Scale Aberrant Behavior Checklist were given mothers.The socio-economic status measured Hollingshead-Redich Scale.Results: It found that average age was 35.73±12.03months noticed symptoms 27.07±9.43months.It also detected there an 9.66±8.89months delay noticing bringing them child adolescent psychiatry clinic.This difference has shown significant positive correlation scores AQ-social skills subscale parents. Conclusion:This study important both terms presenting data related Turkey providing information about delay.Multi-centred studies larger samples which include follow-ups are required on subject.
