ABSTRACT
Objective: The authors of this study took part in a screening program schools Aydın province (unpublished study). This assessed the final thyroid pathologies these children with pathology detected during ultrasonography (USG) obtained as program. Methods: A handheld wireless point-of-care USG device was used to screen gland. Children were invited hospital where detailed lab and an examined. measurements, parenchymal features, noted presence nodules examination. Nodules classified according Thyroid Imaging Reporting & Data System (TI-RADS™) USG-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) performed TI-RADS. Results: total 1,553 cases from 21 between ages 6-17 evaluated 176 (11.3%) cases. One hundred twenty patients’ families agreed attend our centre for further examination, confirmed 108 (90.0%) 120 Among pathologies, 52 (48.1%) patients had nodule thyroiditis; 28 (25.9%) only nodule; thyroiditis. Thyroiditis present 74.0% (n=80) cases, those 56.3% (n=45) peripheral thyroiditis, 31.3% (n=25) diffuse thyroiditis 12.5% (n=10) overweight-related changes. 73.4% 9 FNA performed, their results followed; 55.6% (n=5) benign cytology, 11.1% (n=1) follicular adenoma, atypia indeterminate significance, non-diagnostic cytology papillary cancer. Conclusion: showed that gland are common disorders children. may also have high malignancy potential chance early diagnosis cancers is demonstrated.
