Internal Medicine Residency Program Responses to the Increase of Residency Applications: Differences by Program Type and Characteristics

ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Background Over the past decade, number of residency applications has increased substantially, causing many programs to change their recruitment practices. Objective We determined how internal medicine (IM) have responded by program type (community-based, community-based/university-affiliated, and university-based) characteristics (percentage international medical graduates, size, director [PD] tenure). Methods The Association Program Directors in Internal Medicine conducted a national survey 363 IM PDs 2017. Five questions assessed responses 3 areas: changes strategies, impact on ability perform holistic review, interest 5 potential solutions. performed subgroup analysis measure differences characteristics.
