The Impact of Content-based Instruction on Students’ Achievement in ESP Courses and Their Language Learning Orientation

ABSTRACT
This paper investigated the effect of Content-based Instruction (CBI) on students' English language learning.In so doing, two methods teaching English, that is, CBI and Grammar Translation Method (GTM) were compared with regard to achievement in their final examination learning orientation.The subjects consisted 82 freshmen who randomly assigned into groups at Gonabad University Medical Sciences.To collect data, three instruments employed: Nelson test form 050 C, Language Learning Orientation Scale (LLOS) questionnaire, a test.The data analyzed using t-test some correlational analyses.The results indicated there was no significant difference between regarding LLOS onset study, but groups' performance method English.In other words, group taught through outperformed one GTM (p=0.006 p˂0.05 for groups, respectively).Moreover, subjects' orientation after treatment (p=0.038).Some suggestions implications put forward EFL/ESL teachers consider.
