ABSTRACT
Gossypiboma though uncommon is under-reported. It an infrequent but avoidable surgical error. The retained sponge induces two types of reactions, fibrinous response resulting in granuloma formation and exudative leading to abscess formation. This serious medical condition may result significant morbidity mortality with medico legal implications. We present cases guaze(gossypiboma) seen a busy unit within three months. pathogenesis due gauze induced adhesions that cause intestinal obstruction peritonitis . plain abdominal radiograph was very valuable the first line investigation these patients. possible gossypiboma underreported standard protocols are not common except for routine concern detail while doing laparotomy.
