ABSTRACT
To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of depressed patients living in a Japanese leprosarium who have been isolated by national law are now becoming very elderly.We surveyed National Tamazenshouen Sanatorium, major Japan. We also investigated had suffered depressive episode during last 5 years (2000-2004). The residents committed suicide were studied.At time investigation, 48 out 385 (12.5%) or experienced episode. Forty-one since was established 1907. Somatic symptoms moods predominant not limited to unique leprosy. period isolation statistically correlated with GDS-SF PGC morale scale scores.The findings this study emphasize importance consultation psychiatric for elderly leprosy could be used as reference treatment countries ageing residents.
