ABSTRACT
The two-dimensional (2D) material Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ is a member of the class insulating van der Waals magnets. Here, using high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in detailed temperature dependence study, we identify clear response electronic structure to dimensional crossover form two distinct scales marking onsets modifications structure. Specifically, observe Te $p$-orbital-dominated bands undergo changes at Curie transition T$_C$ while Cr $d$-orbital-dominated begin evolving higher scale. Combined with neutron scattering, density functional theory calculations, and Monte Carlo simulations, find that system can be consistently understood respond sequentially temperatures which in-plane out-of-plane spin correlations exceed characteristic length Our findings reveal sensitivity orbital-selective for probing dynamical evolution local moment vdW
