ABSTRACT
Mathematical optimization is now widely regarded as an indispensable modeling and solution tool for the design of wireless communications systems. While has played a significant role in revolutionary progress communication networking technologies from 1G to 5G onto future 6G, innovations have also substantially transformed nature underlying mathematical problems upon which system designs are based sparked development methodologies understand, analyze, solve those problems. In this paper, we provide comprehensive survey recent advances theory algorithms design. We begin by illustrating common features arising discuss various scenarios use cases their associated structures perspective. then overview algorithms, nonconvex optimization, global integer programming, distributed learning-based optimization. The key successful carefully choosing and/or developing suitable (or neural network architectures) that can exploit problem structure. conclude paper identifying several open research challenges outlining directions.
