ABSTRACT
Channel coding plays a pivotal role in ensuring reliable communication over wireless channels. With the growing need for ultra-reliable emerging use cases, significance of channel has amplified. Furthermore, minimizing decoding latency is crucial critical-mission applications, while optimizing energy efficiency paramount mobile and Internet Things (IoT) communications. As fifth generation (5G) communications currently operation 5G-advanced on horizon, objective this paper to assess prominent schemes context recent advancements anticipated requirements sixth (6G). In paper, after considering potential impact key performance indicators (KPIs) networks, we review evolution standards organizations involved standardization, from first (1G) current 5G, highlighting technologies integral achieving targeted KPIs such as reliability, data rate, latency, efficiency, spectral connection density, traffic capacity. Following this, delve into cases 6G. The subsequent sections focus comprehensive three primary utilized past generations their advancements: low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, turbo codes (including convolutional codes), polar (alongside Reed-Muller codes). Additionally, examine alternative like Fountain sparse regression codes. Our evaluation includes comparative analysis error correction hardware implementation these schemes, providing insights suitability upcoming 6G era.
