ABSTRACT
Throughout childhood, youth learn the skills they need to carry out their daily life tasks. Despite importance of being able manage these tasks succeed in adulthood, limited research has examined process through which do so.To investigate adolescents' perspectives parental approaches that help them responsibilities.Qualitative pilot study.Community.Eight adolescents with and without disabilities.Semistructured interviews were analyzed using recursive, conventional content analysis. Interviews asked about how viewed developing needed responsibilities independently. Parent identified by fit into three overarching themes: Parents teach responsibilities, monitor as become more responsible for tasks, provide varied levels independence. The described explain an implicit transactional shifting responsibility from parents youth.Further investigation transfer is necessary build our understanding this complex support successful transition adulthood.
