ABSTRACT
Background: Topical steroid treatment induces diverse local Wand systemic adverse effects.Several approaches have been tried to reduce the steroid-induced effects.Simultaneous application of physiological lipid mixture is also suggested. Objective: Novel vehicles for topical glucocorticoids formulation were evaluated efficacy reducing side-effects and drug delivery properties desonide, a low potency steroid. Methods: Transcutaneous permeation skin residual amount desonide measured using Franz diffusion cells. The in vivo anti-inflammatory activity was murine model. Results: steroids containing either cream or lotion form, prepared multi-lamellar emulsion (MLE), conventional formulations employed comparison.MLE did not affect phobol ester-induced inflammation model, compared with formulations. While penetrated amounts similar all tested at 24 hours after application, increased lag time observed MLE formulations.Interestingly, epidermis significantly higher type formulation.Steroid-induced effects, including permeability barrier function impairment, partially prevented by formulation. Conclusion: as vehicle showed better epidermal retention.MLE side such impairment.
