Squamous cell carcinoma occurring with aspergillosis in the maxillary sinus: a case report and histological study

ABSTRACT
The coexistence of aspergillosis and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in the maxillary sinus was very rare. To our knowledge, this is second report coexistent SCC sinus. A 58-year-old man underwent surgery for unilateral infection with oroantral fistula. In surgical specimen, were co-detected routine immunohistochemical stainings. Moreover, human papillomavirus 18 (HPV-18) detected by polymerase chain reaction specimen. patient re-operated subtotal maxillectomy has been followed up two years without any evidence recurrence or metastasis. Although it not understood how could induce formation, chronic inflammation caused prolonged fungal might be carcinogenic. HPV-16 – another causative pathogens head neck region. We recommend careful examination, including preoperative cytology, patients infections because potential cancer development.
