ABSTRACT
Background We compared the BACTEC Peds Plus (Becton Dickinson, USA) and BacT/Alert PF (bioMeri-eux, France) pediatric blood culture bottles in context of recovery time to detection (TTD) bacteria fungi from patients. Methods Blood samples were collected for patients who hospitalized during 2010 at a university hospital. placed FX 3D system, respectively, tested 5 days. Bottles flagged by instruments as positive removed TTDs recorded. Results A total 5,018 sets (1 set, 1 PF) evaluated. Overall, proportions 57% (134/195) 69% (112/195), respectively. There was significant differ-ence between 0.38% contamination rate BacT/ Alert 0.16% (P=0.035). The average TTD all microorganisms significantly decreased (P=0.021), but increased Candida parapsilosis results (P=0.028). Conclusion conclude that is higher when are used than culture. detect nearly enrolled faster do bottles.
